Continue reading »]]> Lord Sarjun al Rashid will be the thrown weapons marshal for Siege of Glengary.  He has a full day of throwing planned with lots of great targets.

Lord Petr Kotok will be marshaling a Night Throw on Friday night.

Laird Grimolfr Ormalfson will be marshaling an Atlatl Battle on Friday evening at 6 pm with weapons inspections staring at 5:30 pm. On Saturday, there will be another battle with inspections starting at 3:30 pm and throwing starting at 4 pm.

Our fledgling group of youth fighters is putting on a FUN FUN youth fighting event at Siege of Glengary!

We are very excited and hope that at least a few of you will be able to make it out to our first heavy youth fighting tournament in quite a long time!

The youth fighting will feature:

A CREATIVE WEAPONS SHOWCASE — Please have your youth construct a weapon from whatever materials he or she chooses, it does not HAVE to be a legal fighting weapon, but it can be. During our intermission from fighting we will be showing off everyones weapons and everyone will have a chance to vote on their favorite, and a winner will be chosen and awarded.

This activity is open to ALL children regardless of whether they fight or not.

A Round Robin Tourney – this will be standard fare, and will come first.

And a castle battle that will THRILL the children.. there is talk of a treasure hidden within the castle, but you will have to come and participate in order to find out what lurks inside.

Continue reading »]]> The sound of Pennsic War has passed and Aethelmearc and Atlantia have stood shoulder to shoulder against common foes.  In such rare days we welcome our neighbors from Atlantia to test their metal and show their skills both on the field and off at The Siege of Glengary in Sylvan Glen.  No mere battle for our treasured relic the Silver Apple, no simple raid across the borders.  No this year we challenge all to show their skills “For Kingdom and Crown!”  Let Aethelmearc show what wonders her proud people can perform in the Arts and Sciences and upon the field of battle.  Heavy weapons, rapier, archery and thrown weapons will all compete for points and this year we add Siege Weapons!  The gentle arts will be showcased as well with the theme “For Kingdom and Crown” including a special War Scribal Challenge for Youth and Adult to be composed on site.  What better way to end such a wondrous day than with a feast truly fit for a King?   Savor dishes from England’s oldest royal cookbook prepared by Mistress Euriol of Lothian and the Sylvan Glen Cook’s Guild.  Aethelmearc, your Kingdom and Crown call!

Continue reading »]]> We will have a full day of heavy fighting at Siege of Glengary this year. The MIC is Lord Bruno the Red. Inspections will start at 10 am and fighting will begin at 10:30 am with a great sword tourney.  There will also be a bridge battle and other scenarios.

Continue reading »]]> The theme for the dishes prepared for Lunch and Feast for the Siege of Glengary is “A Feast fit for a King”. As an educational opportunity, the Sylvan Glen Cooks Guild chose a single source to use as the inspiration for most of the recipes: Forme of Cury. Forme of Cury was compiled by the Master Cooks of Richard II of England in 1390. This manuscript was later presented to Queen Elizabeth I in the 28^th year of her reign. A transcription of this manuscript was published in 1780 along with rolls of interest to cookery from the late 14^th century into the 16^th century.
